Lycra- What Is Lycra
Lycra- What Is Lycra
Lycra is a Dupont fiber which is now with Invista. It is basically spandex, which is a man made fabric and is elastic. Lycra is a synthetic product which is used in combination with other fibers to make fabrics which need expandability or stretch ability. Figure hugging clothes and lingerie would typically use Lycra. Lycra allows a piece of clothing or knitted article to spring back to its original manufactured or hand-made form, and in the case of clothing it helps to reduce wrinkles. Most of the garments contain only 3 to 30% of spandex content as spandex can stretch up to 600 times and again bounce back to its original shape.
Characteristics of Lycra
Lycra is elastic. It retains back to original shape. Besides it is lightweight and strong. It is comfortable and flexible as well as resistant to dry heat. In addition to it Lycra is resistant to deterioration by body oils, perspiration, and detergents. It bears the property of readily accepting dye. Lastly it gets damaged by chlorine bleach, so don’t use chlorine bleach on garments which have spandex.
Why Lycra Clothing Is So Sexy
Spandex fetishists who wear the garment experience sexual excitement as a result of the pressure that envelopes parts of the body, including the genitals. Full-body, skin-tight, spandex-like suits entered popular culture in comic books, as worn by superheroes and superheroines. Catwoman, Batgirl, Spider-Woman, Phoenix were all featured in their respective roles wearing a material that resembled skin-tight spandex.
